Top Food/Restaurant Favorites/Best thing to eat where you live?
Locavore, The Oxford American Dictionary Word of the Year, was coined by a group in San Francisco committed to eating local foods and nothing else for a one month period. They issued challenges, recruited members, and a just few years later they?re known to foodies the world over. I, however, contend that locavores were alive and well in Humboldt County long before the Bay Area quartet first uttered the word. Here in Eureka there is a fierce dedication to all things local, be it seafood, produce or wine. Luckily, that means fresh wholesome ingredients and a changing palette of seasonal offerings. Many restaurants feature ?local only? menus, one of the best being La Trattoria in Arcata. With an Italian flair, the chef offers some of the most succulent pasta and game I?ve ever tasted! North Coast wines have a big following up here and with good reason. Consider me a locoenophile, to coin a new term!
