Favorite Ways to Spend Time?
Cooking and eating, especially things that I grow as well as local seafood. Outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, running and golf.
How would you spend the perfect afternoon in your city?
Going for a bike ride or a run, followed by a visit to our local farmer’s market. The Friday Avila Beach market is really nice because it features local seafood in addition to produce. The Saturday Arroyo Grande Farmers Market has a great selection of local produce. Take what I find at the market, pair it with wines that we produce, and cook a meal with friends. I enjoy cooking with others almost as much as I enjoy eating the food we’ve prepared.
Top Food/Restaurants/Best thing to eat locally?
My favorite local restaurants are Lido in Shell Beach. Evan Treadwell is a great chef. Blu in San Luis Obispo is also great, with excellent food, service and a good local wine list. Café Roma is wonderful as well. Marco Rizzo is the consummate host and also has a great wine list. My favorite local foods are red bell peppers from our family farm, chanterelles, and petrale sole.
First place you’d take an out of state visitor?
Depending on their interests (and fitness level) I take them hiking, running or cycling. If they don’t want to do any of those things, I take them to my winery.
Your favorite local drink?
Chardonnay and pinot noir from the Arroyo Grande Valley.
